Maintaining your hair during CoVID 19

Hello, world!

I hope each and every one of you is safe and healthy and practices social distancing as it seems that’s the only way we will get through these unusual times. Who would’ve thought this is how we’d begin 2020?

I know that not being able to visit your hairstylist just adds to the mix – it would be so much better if we could all have fabulous hair, while under quarantine. I can’t do much while the business closure rule is still in place, but I can give a few tips on maintaining your hair while social distancing as well as give you updated information on booking your appointment to ensure you get in ASAP after the regulations lift up.

As of 04/10, my books are open starting 05/05 and for the first few weeks after quarantine is over I will have some hours open on Sundays and Mondays as well. You could book easily online through my website (nckscuts.com/book), through the Book button on my Instagram page (instagram.com/nickscuts_) or my Google listing.

First off, please don’t attempt to color your own hair! Fixing color mistakes can take much longer and cost much more in the end, so please, avoid the color section at your local grocery store. The main difference between box color and professional color is that when getting color done by hairstylist, he works on an individual color formula that is specific to you and what’s going on with your hair already. In contrast, box color lures you with a beautiful hairstyle, colored on Photoshop, and made by people who have never met you – thus the possibility of you looking like the gal on the front of the box is merely an oasis in the midst of a Pandemic desert.

There are temporary solutions to cover those pesky greys or correct the highlights that are starting to become brassy and dull. If you feel like your ends are dry, damaged and need a refreshing then there are also temporary mending products that can hold you over till your next haircut.

I am not able to sell any products but I can guide you in the right direction if you are in need of a solution. Exurbia Salon offers delivery for all products the salon usually carries - just send a direct message to the salon via Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/exurbiasalon/)

GREY COVERAGE: From my research, I found that Style Edit Root Concealer is a highly rated and can be purchased through many retailers online. It consists of color adaptive pigments that smoothly adhere to the hair fiber and self-adjust to perfectly match hair color, providing a lustrous, natural shine. It washes out every time shampoo is used on the hair, or if you aggressively scratch your head, but it doesn’t stain clothes or pillows. I personally have never used this product, on me or a client, but I do have some clients that speak highly of it and I'm sure many of you will check the reviews of the product.

TONING SHAMPOO/CONDITIONER: IGK (our salon brand) has toning drops that you can add to any of your hair products (like shampoo, conditioner, styler) to help neutralize unwanted warmth and get your blonde back on track. Mixed Feeling by IGK has a violet drop that helps keep gold out of your blonde and a teal drop that eliminates orange from your brunette. Read the directions before use. More info about IGK's Mixed Feeling here.

DRY/DAMAGED HAIR: Nothing will revitalize your ends like a haircut but the next best thing is doing a deep condition treatment to add protein and moisture to the exhausted ends. Two products come to mind - IGK's Offline and Antisocial.

Offline is a deep conditioning treatment that restores hair from the inside out. It hydrates your hair, thus minimizing future damage and smooths the hair strands while adding much-wanted shine. More info

Antisocial is a "first-of-its-kind leave-in, bond-building technology repairs and protects hair from the inside out". This time-release dry treatment mask repairs and softens your hair without the need of washing or restyling. More info

All of IGK's products are vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free and free from sulfates, parabens, petrolatum and mineral oil.

Last, but not least: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CUT YOUR OWN HAIR!!!

I know that you NEED a haircut, but remember that beautiful face-framing we did on your last appointment? Ya, you're about to ruin it and then it could take multiple visits to get it back to where it was. Also, products like Flowbee were only created, so that video bloggers can test them and label them as a failure. To illustrate this better here's a video from the youtube user Hair Buddha that clearly illustrates why you SHOULD NOT cut, color and even iron your own hair.

Do you have any questions or suggestions? Drop a comment or email me at contacts@nickscuts.com or connect on social media!

Stay safe, stay inside and I hope to see you soon!

XOXO,

Nick
